Hey my beauty chameleons! As you all know Urban Decay Cosmetics released their limited edition Book of Shadows 3 on their website on September 7th (labor day) at 12:00 CST. I am so glad I was close to my computer around that time because within ten minutes of my purchase the Book of Shadows 3 was sold out! Yes, I am not kidding in 10 minutes! That is crazy for a new launch for any brand. However rest assure this palette will come back at Urban Decay online and I know for sure Sephora.com and ULTA Beauty will launch this wonderful palette this Holiday season and will be in store sometime in October. So, if you did not get you hands on it this time around definitely stay tuned and check your local Sephoras and Ulta's in-store and online closer to that time.
Anyway, earlier this week I came home from work and my hubby said that there was a package waiting for me on my desk and when I got to it I saw my Urban Decay Books of Shadows 3 package. So, like any makeup junkie and place everything down and rushed to open my package. Everything was packaged very nicely from Urban Decay and I also found a sample of some cream shadows too! Here is what the Book of Shadows look like in person. It is super cute 🙂
The packaging as you can see is so cute and a bit thicker than the previous book of shadows. I think that is mainly due to the fact that this beautiful book has lighting as you see in the picture above. I had to test the lighting out in the dark and it worked. hee hee 🙂 Not that this is functional in anyway, I think this was made just for aesthetics, Right? The inside appears to resemble the city of NYC and all this fashion and beauty that comes along with it to me. Inside the Book of Shadows 3 you will find a mix of brights, neutrals and dark shades that will give you the variety to create some every day looks and fun after 5 looks too. This palette includes the following:
Book of Shadows 3 includes 16 shadows, two 24/7 glide liners (Zero & Ransom), and a Mini Primer Potion. Colors in order:
- Perversion (Matte Black)
- Uzi (White Satin with lots of Micro glitters)
- Loaded
- Kush (micro glitters)
- Midnight Cowboy Rides Again**
- Last Call**
- Rockstar
- Money
- Haight
- Maui Wowie**
- Smog**
- Bordello
- Radium
- Snatch (micro glitters)
- Suspect
- Psychedelic
**Notes shadows are available and can be purchased separately.
All of the shadows are very pigmented and glide on the eye with ease of blending and that is one characteristic I love about urban decay's eye shadows. I love that there are brights to work with and neutrals because I know a lot of people would be afraid of this palette if it only contained bold colors. The only too shadows that I was not 100% in love with was Uzi and I believe snatch because of the glitter fall out, but I guess it would be full for a holiday party or Halloweens looks. The primer is always awesome and the 24/7 glide pencils I love because both are waterproof and can also be used as a shadow base too. A shadow base? Yes, if you are wanting to create a bold look on this eye area. Here is a closer look of the palette and swatches:
Like I said before the shadows are beautiful. Now is this worth purchasing? Well, if were not able to get your hands on the book of Shadows volume 1 or 2 this would definitely be a great palette to go for. Now, if you own the prequels to these if it worth the purchase? Yes and no. I do own the prequels and I have to say that there were only a few repeats and I will explain this in this video below:

Overall, if you are a collector of these palettes definitely check this beautiful Book of Shadows. I think this again would be a great gift for a fellow makeup junkie or Christmas gift for someone that has been trying to get this for some time. Questions for you? Did you get this palette? What are your thoughts? Was it worth it to you? Please share. Also is you would like to see a certain looks created with this palette please post your ideas below because you all know that I will be creating some tutorials on my youtube channel for sure.
