Bare Escentuals: My Foundation Routine

Hello beauties!! I am so glad to be here today sharing another video with you all! Thank you so much for your wonderful response on my holiday makeup 2011: classic smoky eye tutorial!! I am so glad you all liked it and that some of you are going to even try it for your next holiday event which is fabulous!!

Today I am going to be sharing with you my new foundation routine for the moment of course (I can't stick to one foundation for too long, lol). For the past month I have been wearing the Bare Escentuals/ Bare Minerals foundation. You are probably thinking, what? Bare Minerals??? Yes, I decided to get back on the Bare Minerals band wagon since my skin is so tired of wearing liquid and cream foundations for the moment. Lately I just wanted to give my skin a break and wear something that is light weight and powder like and Bare Minerals was the one for right now. I am using the original formula foundation that goes on like a powder, but has a dewy finish like liquid foundation. If you have oily skin they now make a Matte formula too!

A while back and I mean a while back I tired bare minerals and I was always matched with either Tan or Dark and neither color matched my skin. One was too red and the other was must too dark for my yellow/olive skin. So since they now have this new shade Golden Tan I can now have a close match. I still have to manipulate the finish a little bit around the forehand and contours of my face with bronzer to get the perfect finish since my forehead is a little darker than the rest of my face. The bronzer I use for that is either NARS casino or MAC bronzer in Bronze.

I have notice that after wearing the bare minerals my skin is clearing from the breakouts I was experiencing from wearing liquid foundations and not sticking to my night time cleansing routine too. (Working late makes a lazy Tasha, lol) Anyway, in the video below I will be sharing with you what I use with the bare Minerals in order to create my flawless face routine. Do any of you use the Bare Minerals? If so, what do you like about it or not like about it? Let me know by leaving your comment below. Until then enjoy the video!!

Happy Holidays,

Tasha 🙂

NARS Review: Sheer Glow & Sheer Matte Foundations

Today I will be talking about 2 of my newest favorite liquid foundations which are NARS Sheer Glow and Sheer Matte. As you may have noticed in the life update section of my blog I had a big haul of things I purchase before and after Christmas. I was so fortunate to receive gifts cards from my friends at work and they now I LOVE to shop for makeup, so with that said I decided to pick up both NARS foundations. You may be wondering why did you pickup both? Well, depending on my mood I love to have glowing skin at times and then I also like to sport a matte look too. I guess you can call me a chameleon in makeup, huh? Is NARS foundation new to you? Well you can find NARS cosmetics at Sephora and Nordstorms on and off-line.

Who or what is NARS Cosmetics? Click here to find out more about Nars and the genious behind the Brand Francois Nars. Now let's talk more about each foundations I picked up and the differences. The First foundation I would like to talk about is the NARS sheer Glow and the facts.

According to the brand NARS Sheer Glow Foundation does the following:

What it does: This Sheer Glow Foundation enhances, without masking, your overall natural complexion The weightless formula hydrates the skin while complexion brightening properties improve skin brightness, radiance, and texture, leaving skin with a luminous, sensual glow.

What else you need to know: Suitable for normal, normal-to-dry, dry, and very dry skin types.

My opinion on the Sheer Glow is awesome! For one thing if you have a yellow undertone this foundation is the best for that which I am! It is a struggle for me to find a foundation that is not too pink, orange, or red and NARS hands down was a perfect fit for me. As fair as the weight of the foundation it is light smooth and velvety to the touch. It is best to apply the foundation with you hands because the hands warm up the foundation and gives it the best blending possible. However at times I will use my stippling brush and blend in circular motion to get a light airbrush finish to the foundation. The coverage of the foundation is light and buildable, but be aware if you need a full coverage foundation this may no be the one to use for that unless you are using lots, and I mean A LOT of concealer. The finish is beautiful!! My skin was very luminous and healthy. Now mind you if you skin and skincare is not on point do not expect the same results. I truly stress that your foundation is only as good as you skin.  Let's move on to Sheer Matte.

According to the brand NARS Sheer Matte Foundation does the following:

What it does: This Sheer Glow Foundation enhances, without masking, your overall natural complexion. The weightless formula absorbs oil and keeps skin shine free all day long. The complexion brightening properties improve skin brightness, radiance, and texture, leaving the complexion with a luminous, fresh finish.

What else you need to know: Suitable for normal, normal-to-oily, oily, and very oily skins types.

What I like about this one is the fact that if you are experiencing oiliness in the skin this foundation is oil free and great for mattifying and absorbing oil throughout the day. So for my oily skin Chameleons out there you will love this foundation. The undertones are the same of the sheer glow, the texture is smooth and flawless. You can also apply the foundation in the same manner as the sheer glow. The coverage is about the same as the sheer glow too.

The one thing I did not point out is that both foundation have a complex in side that helps improves the texture and brightness of your skin while wearing it which is a plus. It's kind of like having foundation with skincare in it! So, that can be the reason why you will pay $42 for each foundation. Now you may be asking if there is a cheaper alternative to this foundation? I have been searching the web and the buzz right now is that Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation, $12.49 is the one for sheer glow, but. . . Just looking at the shade range of the Neutrogena everything looks to light for even my skin tone or too pink .  But if you have it let me know your thoughts on it.

Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse Foundation Review

Okay. .this month my beauties I decided to challenge myself and try out some drugstore makeup, yes I am not kidding! You all know I love my Sephora and MAC, but I am really curious to see if there are some other great drugstore makeup out there to try. I will be honest, purchasing drugstore makeup is not my favorite thing to do because I like to try things out before I buy it too make sure the products does what it says. You know what I mean? Now, eye shadows, lipsticks, and mascaras I am safe with, but foundation is the scariest thing for me to try at the drugstore. Why? Well, you are unable to color match and I hate to make the trip to buy something that may not match and have to drive all the way back to the drugstore to return and go through the same process all over again, right? So, now you know my reasoning.

Anyway, during the middle of last month I decided to be brave and try out Maybelline's  Dream Smooth Mousse Foundation$7.99, I picked up because I have been seeing a lot of reviews on this product on youtube and on various beauty blogs as well.

What Maybelline says about the Dream Smooth Mousse Foundation:

  • It Unique cream-whipped foundation provides 100% baby-smooth perfection.
  • Skin looks and feels hydrated for 14 hours – never rough or dry
  • Lightweight formula provides perfectly moisturizing coverage
  • Blends seamlessly and feels fresh all-day
  • Oil-free, Fragrance-free, Dermatologist Tested, Allergy Tested, Non-comedogenic – won’t clog pores.
  • Safe for sensitive skin

Now, this product contains the foundation and a sponge for application. I typically don't like to use a sponge for applying this foundation so I decided to use my Too Faced Cosmetics Kabuki Brush $32, to applying the foundation in order to achieve a light airbrushed look to this cream foundation.

Characteristics of the foundation when applying it and wearing:

  • The foundation felt light and smooth to the touch. Not cakey or heavy feeling at all!
  • Blendability of the foundation was easy and smooth too.
  • The Coverage of this foundation is a light to medium coverage to me. However, you can build this one up with out it getting too cakey and messy.
  • The color of the foundation was slightly deeper on my complexion, but manageable with some blending.
  • Very hydrating to the skin which is great if you have a normal to dry skin type. If you are on the oilier side, this formula maybe a bit much and you may want to opt and use Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse Foundation $7.99, since it will offer more mattifying for oily skin.
  • Wearability throughout the work day was pretty good! Just make sure you use a foundation primer and set this foundation with a powder that has a dewy finish. My favorite powder to use with this foundation was MAC's mineralized skinfinish. My shade is medium deep.

The downside to this foundation is the shade range. Maybelline only offers 10 shades in this formula, so with that said the said I purchased the 350 caramel and that was the darkest available. I hope that Maybelline offer deeper shades of this formula because I think this will be a great affordable cream foundation option for those with normal to dry skin that need a hydrating cream foundation for the winter months.

However, if you are a loyal department store makeup lover definitely try out Laura Mercier's Laura Mercier 'Creme Smooth' Foundation $50. This foundation is next on my list tryouts.Laura Mercier's foundation has a hydrating formula that includes a multipeptide complex infused with Dermaxyl and advanced optical diffusers that help to visibly smooth out lines and wrinkles. This foundation is also perfect for normal to dry skin and it offers buildable coverage with a radiant, smooth finish. Pricey, but for what you pay you will receive some wonderful skincare benefits from the multipeptide that is firming and I love all the firming I can get.
